Fine imposed on business that charged 600 TL for 3 bottles of water
Following social media posts claiming that 600 TL was charged for 3 bottles of water in the Mudanya district of Bursa, the business in question was placed under scrutiny. Inspections by Ministry of Trade teams revealed that 5 different beverages were missing from both the mandatory price list at the entrance and the menus. Based on these findings, an administrative fine was imposed on the business for violating tariff and price list regulations.
The claim that a business operating in the Mudanya district of Bursa charged 600 TL for 3 bottles of water has caused a widespread reaction among the public. Following images and comments shared on social media and various news platforms, the Ministry of Trade took action. In response to public outcry, an official inspection was carried out at the business in question.
The Ministry of Trade announced that an investigation into the business in Mudanya was conducted following the allegations reflected in the public sphere and that the inspection was completed in a short time.
The following statements were included in the explanation made by the Ministry regarding the issue:
"Following the post on social media and various news sites regarding a payment of 600 TL for 3 bottles of water at a business in Mudanya, an immediate on-site inspection was carried out on 17.02.2026 by our Bursa Provincial Directorate of Trade under the auspices of our Bursa Governorship.
During the inspection:
-The price list that must be present at the entrance of the business and the menus that must be on the tables were checked, and price practices, especially for beverage group products, were examined within the framework of the legislation.
As a result of the examination:
-It was determined that 5 types of beverages were not included in the price list at the entrance and on the menu; therefore, an administrative fine was imposed on the business for non-compliance with the tariff and price list.
-In addition, an exorbitant price inspection was also conducted regarding the beverages in question; a second report was drawn up by requesting purchase invoices and defenses for the last 3 months retrospectively. Together with the report, the information and documents were immediately forwarded to the Unfair Price Evaluation Board within our Ministry of Trade for necessary action.
We continue our inspections, both routine and upon complaint, without interruption in all areas within our jurisdiction, especially in the food and beverage sector; we resolutely implement all necessary administrative procedures to protect the rights of our consumers and to ensure fair pricing in the market."
