Footage alleged to be from the İzmir operation turns out to be old

On the morning of July 1, an operation in which 130 people, including former İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer, were detained, caused widespread repercussions. It was soon understood that the operation footage reflected in the media following the investigation launched into the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality on charges of "rigging the tender and performance of the act" and "qualified fraud" was not current.

Examinations revealed that this footage, shared by the police and news agencies, was from the Aliağa Customs Bribery Operation carried out in July 2024. It was understood that the footage was recorded during the same period last year and was re-released as if it belonged to the latest operation.

These videos, which spread rapidly on social media, were first shared on the social media accounts of the İzmir Police Department in July 2024. It was also determined that the same recordings were reused during the "Bribery Operation at Aliağa Ports" on October 22, 2024.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to the sharing of the footage of the detained individuals in the media with the following statements:

“A dawn operation, and today we saw that they moved with hundreds of police vehicles arranged in a formation that they surely spent hours preparing, with drone footage, like a special film production, and they released detention footage that would damage the honor and dignity of the individuals. If the goal were to seek justice, justice is not sought with a drone. If you are in pursuit of the truth and reality, you do not need perception operations.”
