The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued important warnings to citizens due to a cold and rainy weather system that will be effective across Turkey throughout the week. The statement reported that the country will be partly to very cloudy, with intermittent precipitation expected in many regions.
Sleet and snow are expected, particularly in the inland parts of the Black Sea and in Eastern Anatolia.
Locally heavy downpours will be seen in the surroundings of Rize, eastern Trabzon, Artvin, Samsun, Ordu, and Giresun. In Istanbul, the precipitation will begin to take effect starting from the night hours.
Significant changes in air temperatures are also expected due to the cold wave. Temperatures are forecast to drop by 3 to 5 degrees in Marmara, the northwest of Central Anatolia, and the Western-Central Black Sea, while an increase of 3 to 5 degrees is projected for the southeast of Central Anatolia and the Eastern Black Sea.
STORM AND AVALANCHE WARNING
The wind is expected to blow strongly, occasionally reaching storm force, from the north and northwest, particularly in Central Anatolia and the Western Black Sea.
Authorities emphasized that caution and precautions should be taken against risks such as disruptions in transportation, roof damage, and carbon monoxide poisoning from stoves and natural gas. It was also stated that there is a risk of avalanches in high-altitude areas.
