Heavy toll in Yalıkavak Marina fire: 7 motor yachts destroyed

A fire that started on a motor yacht moored at Yalıkavak Marina in the Bodrum district of Muğla during the night grew rapidly and spread to nearby vessels. The fire, the cause of which has not yet been determined, spread over a wide area due to the effect of the wind.

Upon notification, fire, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the region by land, while Coast Guard and Coastal Safety units participated in the intervention from the sea. Additionally, tugboats directed from the ports of Bodrum and Güllük supported the extinguishing efforts. During the teams' intensive intervention, which lasted approximately 4 hours, other motor yachts in the vicinity were pulled out to open water for safety purposes.

Following the incident, Tamer Mandalinci, Raşit Gödelek, and Tuncay Aydın arrived at the scene to conduct inspections and receive information from the authorities.

In the fire, 7 motor yachts ranging in length from 20 to 30 meters burned completely and sank, while 1 motor yacht was partially damaged. Cleanup efforts have been initiated to address the marine pollution caused by the incident.

Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci stated, “Get well soon to the boat owners, the marina management, and all the people of Bodrum. It was an incident that no one wanted. May God protect us from worse. The cause of the fire will be determined as a result of the investigation to be conducted.”
