Horrific incident in Antalya: Lion escapes from animal park and attacks farmer sleeping in his field!

A male lion named Zeus escaped from an animal park located in the Manavgat district of Antalya around 03:00 at night.

Upon receiving the report, teams from the Kumköy Gendarmerie Station and the Manavgat Police Department went on high alert. Arriving in the area shortly after, the teams began tracking the lion. Around 03:45, acting on the sounds of a struggle coming from behind a hotel 700-800 meters away, the teams saw that Zeus was attacking a citizen. Police and gendarmerie teams fired into the air to drive the lion away.

ATTACKED A MAN SLEEPING IN HIS FIELD

It was learned that the person attacked by the lion was Süleyman Kır (53), who has been making a living through farming and animal husbandry in the region for many years. It was determined that Kır had fallen asleep next to his pickup truck after irrigating his peanut field with his wife at night, and that the attack occurred during this time. Süleyman Kır, who was seriously injured in many parts of his body, was placed in the bed of his own pickup truck and transported to an ambulance because the ambulance could not enter the scene. Kır, who received his first intervention at Manavgat State Hospital, was then transferred to Antalya.

LION CAPTURED IN THE MORNING HOURS

The lion named Zeus managed to lose its trail until morning. A large-scale search was launched in the morning hours for the lion, whose tracks were found again in a wooded area, involving the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Manavgat Unit, Gendarmerie HAYDİ teams, and construction equipment belonging to the Manavgat Municipality. Zeus, who was found in the forest around 11:30, was neutralized after long efforts.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
