Investigation launched into CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress election

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into allegations that have recently come to the fore regarding the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress election, specifically claims of election fraud and violations of election law.

In a statement regarding the matter, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said, "An investigation has been initiated by our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding allegations of fraud and violation of election law during the recent CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress elections."

HE HAD BEEN ELECTED PROVINCIAL CHAIR BY A 32-VOTE MARGIN

The 38th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress of the CHP was held on October 8, 2023, at the Haliç Congress Center, where Bahçelievler District Chair Özgür Çelik was elected Istanbul Provincial Chair with 342 votes. In that congress, former Istanbul Provincial Chair Cemal Canpolat had received 310 votes.

INVESTIGATION HAD ALSO BEEN LAUNCHED REGARDING CHP'S 38TH ORDINARY CONVENTION

Meanwhile, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had also launched an investigation into allegations that "votes were cast in exchange for money on the day of the convention" during the CHP's 38th Ordinary Convention held on November 4-5, 2023.
