ISIS operation in Istanbul: 8 detained
Eight suspects identified as collecting funds for the terrorist organization ISIS and maintaining contact with its members have been detained in Istanbul.
Teams from the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command's Counter-Terrorism Branch, under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, conducted an operation aimed at identifying and exposing the financial activities of the ISIS armed terrorist organization.
As part of the investigation, information was obtained that an individual identified as A.G., who is considered to be in a position of collecting funds for the organization, was gathering money under the guise of "infak" (charitable donation) for individuals operating in support of the terrorist organization in Syrian conflict zones, as well as for supporters of the organization in Istanbul.
In this context, examinations of MASAK (Financial Crimes Investigation Board) and HTS (Historical Traffic Search) data for a total of 8 suspects—identified as B.A., B.K., D.Ç., H.D., M.G., O.E., S.A., and H.M.C.—revealed that they had engaged in money transfers with individuals who had previously faced legal action due to links to the organization and that they maintained contact with them.
All 8 suspects were apprehended during the operation, and digital materials were seized.
