Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announces: 'There is no amnesty'
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç made important statements regarding a new penal execution regulation while evaluating current issues. He stated, 'There is work being done on penal execution regulations. There is no amnesty on the agenda. Technical work is currently underway. The claim that 55 thousand people will be pardoned is not true. We will present our draft regarding the solution.'
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç answered journalists' questions at the Judiciary and Business World Symposium held in Kocaeli.
Minister Tunç's statement on the agenda is as follows:
'The illness of Istanbul Deputy and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Sırrı Süreyya Önder has deeply saddened us all; we convey our best wishes for a speedy recovery. We hope he regains his health as soon as possible.
We had actually scheduled an appointment with the DEM Party delegation for tomorrow at 14:00. There were issues they were going to express within the scope of the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process, and they were going to share these with us. We had to postpone it due to Mr. Süreyya's illness. Our entire focus is on Sırrı Süreyya Önder regaining his health; this is our only wish and prayer.
With his truly conciliatory personality, he was making significant contributions to this process and was one of the people who believed in a Terror-Free Turkey. They had initiated some work; we were going to meet with his delegation tomorrow and listen to the issues.
What would have been on the agenda if it had taken place tomorrow;
Of course, it is not possible for us to say what they would have expressed during the meeting at this moment.
But beforehand, they had certain demands from time to time, especially regarding the conditions of detainees and convicts in prisons.
These were already being addressed within the framework of legislation, laws, and regulations.
They had made certain requests, particularly regarding sick detainees and convicts and execution conditions.
We could have evaluated the work done on those issues during that meeting.'
CLAIMS OF TRUSTEES FOR CHP
'People sharing posts on social media about who will be arrested and who will be released is entirely for the purpose of disinformation. These should not be given credence; they have consequences. One should be careful when making such social media posts. Posts that could constitute disinformation should be avoided; if such posts are made, our Public Prosecutors intervene, as they did last night.'
WILL THERE BE AN AMNESTY FOR 55 THOUSAND PEOPLE?
'The issue being evaluated by the public as an amnesty is a misunderstanding. There is no amnesty on the agenda, it is not on our agenda. The regulations are about conditions in prisons. There are some issues regarding convicts over a certain age.
The claim that 55 thousand people will be pardoned is not true.'
