Ministry takes a step back on APP license plate fines! Fines issued after that date have been canceled

The Ministry of Interior has made a new decision regarding the fines applied to APP license plates, which are known as non-standard. In line with the Ministry's instructions, it was announced that administrative fines issued since February 27 have been canceled.

INSPECTIONS WILL TEMPORARILY BE CONDUCTED AS INFORMATION SESSIONS

According to information obtained from Ministry sources, the issue of increasing sanctions for the use of APP license plates came to the agenda within the scope of an omnibus law amendment that includes increasing the administrative fine for the act of "attaching a license plate that does not comply with the qualifications or dimensions specified in the regulation," which is found in Article 23 of the Highway Traffic Law.

However, with the increase in applications for license plate changes, density and long queues formed at many points. Upon this, it was decided with the instruction of Minister Mustafa Çiftçi that inspections would be carried out in the form of guidance and information activities until April 1, 2026.

FINES ISSUED AFTER FEBRUARY 27 HAVE BEEN CANCELED

Within the scope of the new practice, it was reported that all administrative fines issued due to APP license plates since February 27 have been canceled.

It was stated that license plates printed and sealed by the authorized organization, the Turkish Drivers and Automobile Federation (TŞOF), and given to citizens will not be subject to criminal proceedings even if they appear to be outside the standards specified in the law.

FINES APPLY IF SUBSEQUENT CHANGES ARE MADE TO THE PLATE

Officials stated that if a citizen makes any additions or changes to the plate after receiving it printed and sealed by TŞOF, an administrative fine of 4 thousand liras will be applied.

On the other hand, the administrative fine of 140 thousand liras will continue to be applied to those who use fake or unofficial license plates obtained from unauthorized places other than TŞOF on their vehicles.

Officials emphasized that this sanction is important in terms of ensuring public order and protecting citizen safety, especially in the fight against crimes such as drug trafficking, human smuggling, and terrorism.
