CHP Bolu Deputy Türker Ateş has prepared a proposal to amend the Passport Law and submitted it to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. It was announced that the regulation in question is intended to cover members of the TOBB board of directors, as well as the chairmen of the boards and assemblies of chambers and commodity exchanges.

While explaining the justification for the proposal, Ateş emphasized that unexpected delays in visa procedures and uncertainties regarding the process lead to disruptions in commercial activities. Ateş stated, "Trade can be disrupted due to delays and uncertainties in visa processes. This situation harms Turkey's commercial relations and international competitiveness. Turkey must take a step to both escape the middle-income trap and increase its share of world trade. In a period where global competition is so intense, it is unacceptable for the constitutional representatives of the business world to face bureaucratic obstacles. This regulation is not a privilege, but a necessary step for the effective execution of a public duty."

Within the scope of the proposal, it was recalled that TOBB, as well as chambers and exchanges, have the status of public institutions in accordance with Article 135 of the Constitution and represent Turkey in the trade, industry, agriculture, and service sectors.

In Ateş's statement, it was pointed out that the chairmen and management of such institutions are in frequent contact with countries that are prominent in foreign trade, especially European Union countries. However, it was noted that in the current situation, difficulties experienced in visa processes sometimes cause these duties to be disrupted.

Ateş assessed, "This situation is not merely an individual grievance; it is a problem that directly harms Turkey's commercial relations and international competitiveness. In the age of global competition, we should not tolerate bureaucratic obstacles that weaken our ability to represent ourselves."

The proposal submitted to Parliament is expected to be discussed and brought to the agenda in the relevant committees in the coming days.
