Notable trend following new traffic fines: Decline stands out
Data regarding traffic inspections have been released following the regulation that came into effect on February 27 under the Highway Traffic Law. Statistics shared by the Ministry of Interior show a decrease in certain serious traffic violations compared to the same period last year.
Following the entry into force of the amendment to the Highway Traffic Law on February 27, the first data regarding traffic inspections have been shared with the public. In the data announced by the Ministry of Interior, the results of inspections for the period of February 27 to April 30 were compared with the same period last year.
According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi, while the number of vehicles inspected during the period in question increased by 4.5 percent, a 21.6 percent decrease was recorded in the number of vehicles processed.
DATA ON DECLINE IN SERIOUS VIOLATIONS SHARED
According to the released data, there was a decline in some violations that endanger traffic safety. Compared to the same period last year, the "weaving through traffic" violation decreased by 92.6 percent.
It was stated that there was a 78.2 percent decrease in tachograph violations, a 62.1 percent decrease in drifting violations, and a 58.7 percent decrease in speeding violations.
CHANGES IN OTHER TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS
The data also indicated that the violation of failing to comply with a "stop" order decreased by 51.8 percent, failure to wear a helmet by 32.4 percent, and driving without a license by 31.4 percent.
The use of mobile phones while driving declined by 27.8 percent, driving despite having one's license suspended by 25.5 percent, and driving in the wrong direction by 20.7 percent.
