Restrictions on SMA fundraising stands in Istanbul
The Istanbul Governor's Office has announced that collecting donations via audio announcements at stands set up for children with SMA is now prohibited. All stands will be removed from designated high-traffic and crowded areas.
A new regulation regarding fundraising stands opened for SMA patients in Istanbul has come into effect. The Governor's Office announced that collecting donations via audio announcements in subways, on bridges, at bus stops, and at stations is now prohibited.
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) treatment stands were previously able to operate with permission from the Governor's Office.
“ACTED WITH FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS”
In an investigation conducted following complaints and reports, the Governor's Office determined that families and their relatives were operating at these stands to reach large crowds without proper authorization. Furthermore, it was determined that loud and continuous announcements were being made at these stands.
With the new regulation, the Istanbul Governor's Office stated, "Under no circumstances will audio fundraising activities be permitted in our province."
ALL STANDS TO BE REMOVED
The Governor's Office announced that all stands will be removed from locations that obstruct pedestrian and traffic flow, such as subway entrances and exits, underpasses and overpasses, public transport stops and stations, streets, alleys, bazaars, markets, and squares.
The statement further included the following: "In this context, authorized units, primarily law enforcement and municipal police, will intensify inspection activities, and if those acting in violation are identified during these inspections, proceedings will be carried out within the framework of the relevant legislation."
