Taxi fares in İzmir have been increased for the second time within a month. With the new regulation, the short-distance fare has risen from 80 TL to 90 TL. According to this latest regulation passed by the Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME), the taximeter opening fee has been set at 20 TL, while the per-kilometer rate has become 30 TL.
The increase in fuel prices was cited as the reason for this hike in taxi fares in İzmir.
Celil Anık, President of the İzmir Chamber of Drivers and Automobile Merchants, explained the reason for the price increase, stating that there had been another 6 lira hike in fuel prices. Anık said, "We had implemented a tariff a month ago, but fuel prices increased by another 6 lira. Following this, we applied to the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality to request a revision of the tariff, and our revision request was accepted.
In line with the latest decision passed by the UKOME General Assembly, the short-distance fare was set at 90 TL, the per-kilometer rate at 30 TL, and the taximeter opening fee at 20 TL," he stated.
