'Keep it safe,' they said... They stole a 1.4 million watch using the 'hole in the drawer' method

K.İ., who lives in Bakırköy, Istanbul, put his luxury brand watch up for sale by posting an ad online. A person who called K.İ., claiming to be a buyer, agreed on a price of 1.4 million lira for the watch, and the two reached an agreement. K.İ. took the watch with him and went to the alleged buyers' rented office in Bakırköy, where they chatted for a while.

THE 'HOLE IN THE DRAWER' DETAIL

According to the report by Sabah, once an agreement was reached on the sale, the suspects suggested going to the bank with K.İ. and placed the watch in a drawer, saying, "Let it stay safe."

A short while later, they said, "There was a problem at the bank, let's cancel the sale," and returned the watch they took out of the drawer to K.İ.

When he got home, K.İ. realized the watch was a fake and understood he had been defrauded, so he filed a complaint.

The Public Security Branch Office's Fraud Bureau teams, which launched an investigation into the matter, took 4 suspects into custody.

Investigations revealed that the back of the drawer in question had a hole in it and that the watch had been swapped with a fake one from the adjacent room.

The suspects taken into custody regarding the incident, B.Y., C.C., M.H., and Z.B., were referred to the courthouse following their processing.
