Thunderstorms begin to affect Istanbul

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Disaster Coordination (AKOM) had issued a warning yesterday regarding the expected rainfall. The thunderstorms were particularly effective on the Anatolian side intermittently. Rain showers also occurred today around noon.

WILL CONTINUE IN THE COMING HOURS

Many Istanbul residents who were caught unprepared by the summer rain experienced difficult moments. Meteorological officials stated that the rain showers are expected to continue their effect in the coming hours.

CITIZENS CAUGHT UNPREPARED

In Kartal, vehicles had difficulty moving on streets filled with rainwater. While some citizens caught unprepared by the downpour waited under eaves for the rain to stop, others tried to run away.

TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN PLACES

On the European side, rainfall was observed intermittently, especially in Sarıyer and around the Bosphorus. Traffic congestion also occurred in some areas of Fatih due to the rainfall.

With the effect of the rain, drivers were able to move slowly at the entrances and connecting roads of the 15 July Martyrs and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges. Traffic congestion also occurred in some areas on the D-100 highway and the TEM motorway.
