Breaking News: Explosion in a 14-story building in Beylikdüzü!

A natural gas explosion occurred in an apartment on the ground floor of a 14-story building in Beylikdüzü, Istanbul. The Istanbul Governor's Office announced that 1 person lost their life and 3 people were injured. Meanwhile, the moment of the explosion was captured on security cameras.

An explosion, believed to have been caused by the natural gas installation, occurred in an apartment on the ground floor of a 14-story building on Topçu Street, Konak Avenue in the Adnan Kahveci neighborhood of Istanbul's Beylikdüzü district.

Debris and belongings from the building were scattered around due to the explosion. As residents evacuated the building, numerous police, fire, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification.

The teams cut off the electricity and natural gas flow to the street. Those rescued as injured by the fire crews who began work in the building were taken to the hospital by ambulance after receiving initial intervention at the scene by medical teams.

A search operation was launched after the person in the caretaker's apartment on the basement floor of the building could not be reached. A search and rescue dog is also assisting the teams in their efforts.

 

 

 

 

 

1 PERSON LOST THEIR LIFE

In a statement made by the Istanbul Governor's Office, it was stated that the incident occurred around 07:30, and the following expressions were used: "An explosion, determined to be related to natural gas, occurred in the basement of a building on Topçu Street in the Adnan Kahveci neighborhood of Beylikdüzü. 1 person lost their life in the incident, and 3 people were injured. The injured individuals are not in life-threatening condition. The investigation initiated regarding the matter is ongoing."

"IT WAS LIKE AN EARTHQUAKE, WE WERE JOLTED BY THE IMPACT OF THE EXPLOSION"

Mustafa Baş, one of the building's residents, stated that they woke up to the sound of an explosion in the morning hours and said, "It was like an earthquake; we were jolted by the impact of that explosion. We live on the 9th floor; the state of the building is not pleasant at all, belongings are scattered, it's as if the ground floor no longer exists, but there is nothing visible on the columns and shear walls."

Explaining that there are a total of 84 apartments in the blocks, Baş said, "It was like a bomb going off or the sounds during the moment of collapse in the '99 earthquake."

Kadir Kalemci, who evacuated the building with his dog, explained that they heard a loud explosion sound and said, "We went down the stairs; the elevators had exploded, so they were not usable. Everything was in ruins, and there was a lot of smoke. There were two of us, and a dog. The doors were also in very bad shape; I couldn't open them at first. The areas where the water meters are located had exploded."
