Scandalous request from a citizen in Şanlıurfa surprises CHP's Tanal! 'I can't even slap my wife...'
In Şanlıurfa, a citizen approached CHP MP Mahmut Tanal and demanded, "I can't even slap my wife. Block the women's rights law. Bring this law to the agenda in Parliament." Stunned by the scandalous request, Tanal asked, "Can your wife slap you? Why would you want to slap her?"
CHP Şanlıurfa MP Mahmut Tanal met with citizens following an event he attended in Şanlıurfa. During the conversation, a citizen approached him with a highly controversial request.
The citizen, acting as if he were suffering a great injustice, demanded the freedom to commit violence, stating, "There is no such law even in Europe. I can't slap my wife, I can't say anything to my daughter." Upon this, Tanal responded with a justified reaction, questioning the citizen by saying, "Isn't that against human rights? Can your wife slap you? So why should you be able to slap your wife?"
However, the citizen, far from understanding these words, went even further, making the inconceivable request: "She is my family. When she is in the wrong, I can discipline her. I can discipline my daughter, my sister. My concern is for you to block this law, cancel it, the women's rights law."
Tanal gave a stern response to this demand, emphasizing that violence against women can never be accepted, stating, "What law, brother? Isn't the woman you speak of your life partner? She needs to have the same rights that you have. Disciplining is one thing; beating and committing violence is another."
