According to reports in the French national press, adverse weather conditions that have been affecting the north and east of the country for days are negatively impacting daily life.

TEAMS RECOVERED THE BODY

Gendarmerie teams recovered the lifeless body of a 73-year-old man yesterday from a vehicle submerged in water in the flood-affected Loire-Atlantique department.

It was stated that the man, who had been reported missing, was driving his vehicle on a road closed to traffic due to the flooding. In the northern Pas-de-Calais department, which has been severely affected by floods and inundations, the number of people evacuated from their homes has reached 371 so far.

Across the region, a total of 1,299 homes in 189 towns and cities have been affected by the floods. Citizens are experiencing serious transportation problems in Pas-de-Calais, where the Aa River has overflowed and some city centers have been submerged.

RED ALERT CONTINUES

Local business owners expressed their frustration at facing floods and water inundations once again following November 2023. The shopkeepers are also worried about the financial damage this situation will cause to their stores.

Government Spokesperson Olivier Veran and Minister of Ecological Transition Christophe Bechu met with citizens, elected officials, and firefighters working in the region in the town of Arques in Pas-de-Calais.

The French Meteorological Service announced that the "red alert," the highest level of danger, will remain in effect until tomorrow in Pas-de-Calais, where the flooding is occurring.
