Rio de Janeiro Mayor Marcelo Crivella stated in a press briefing that 25 thousand people have been evacuated in some towns and that search and rescue operations are ongoing.
Noting that 12 people have died due to the heavy rains that have been continuing for a week, Crivella reminded that they declared a state of emergency last week.
Crivella stated that highways and dozens of houses were submerged, and noted that emergency humanitarian aid would be delivered to the regions.
In previous years, dozens of people had also lost their lives in Rio de Janeiro due to floods and landslides caused by heavy rainfall.
