1,500-person caravan sets off from Mexico: New wave of migrants to the US ahead of Trump's inauguration

A new migrant caravan has set off from Mexico, heading toward the United States.

According to reports in the Mexican press, approximately 1,500 migrants departed from Tapachula, the country's largest southern border city, and have begun their journey to reach the US border.

Luis Rey Garcia Villagran, Director of the Center for Human Dignity (CDH), issued a statement calling on Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, urging that the migrants not be obstructed.

Speaking to the Spanish news agency EFE, Villagran stated, "We believe the biggest problem is the political differences between Sheinbaum and President-elect Trump."

Cesar Eduardo Milano, a Venezuelan migrant, stated that the immigration office had not helped them, saying, "I haven't spoken to any immigration office, and I don't want to talk to them anymore. They offer us things they can't deliver; they detained me, and it wasn't what they told me it would be. I was imprisoned in depressing conditions."

Footage shared on social media shows that the caravan includes a large number of participants from various nationalities.

Many migrants departing from Central American countries are attempting to reach the US via Guatemala and Mexico.
