4 critical reasons for the tension between Musk and Trump: 'Elon is very hurt'

The disagreements between US President Donald Trump and his close ally Elon Musk have come to light following a post by tech billionaire Musk on the X platform.

Musk, who ended his active role in the US administration last week by leaving his position at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), described the tax and spending bill—which Trump defined as "one big beautiful bill"—as a "disturbing abomination" in a comment.

In a message shared on his X account on Tuesday, Musk stated, "Sorry, but I can't tolerate this anymore. This massive and ugly Congressional spending bill is a disturbing disgrace. Shame on those who support it; you know you are doing wrong, you are aware of it."

WHAT DOES THE BILL TRUMP WANTS PROPOSE?

Musk had criticized this bill before, but his latest comments received much harsher reactions than expected. In his post on his X account, he said of the bill, "It will increase the already large budget deficit by another 2.5 trillion dollars and put the American people under an unsustainable debt burden."

Musk also said, "Congress is driving America toward bankruptcy."

This bill, known as the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," is considered the most important domestic policy move of Trump's second presidential term. The bill aims to continue individual and corporate tax cuts and is consistent with some of the promises Trump made during his election campaign.

For example, the law aims to increase employees' income by eliminating taxes on tips, overtime, and auto loan interest. While the child tax credit is being increased to 2,500 dollars until 2028, funding for gender transition treatments and certain non-governmental organizations from social security is also being banned.

However, there are interpretations that some articles of the law conflict with Musk's interests. According to allegations, Musk's Starlink project and the interests of his company, Tesla, may also have been influential behind this sharp rift between the two close allies.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE TAX

The bill includes the elimination of electric vehicle tax credits for automakers like Musk's Tesla. As of the end of April, Tesla had spent at least 240 thousand dollars on lobbying for this credit and other corporate interests. Sources speaking to Axios suggested that Musk supported this provision in the law but failed to quell public backlash.

DID HE NOT WANT TO LEAVE DOGE?

Although Musk did not officially hold a position at DOGE, he had the status of a "special government employee" at the White House. However, the new bill introduced a 130-day term limit for unpaid advisory positions. It is alleged that Musk wanted to remain in office after this period.

Recently, the billionaire's activities at DOGE have bothered many figures in the Republican Party. US media had claimed that Musk clashed directly with some ministers during cabinet meetings held in recent months. These ministers include Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Sources speaking to Axios state that Musk requested the Federal Aviation Administration to use the Starlink satellite system for national air traffic control purposes. However, it is alleged that the aviation administration opposed this request both to prevent conflicts of interest and for technological reasons.

WITHDRAWAL OF THE NAME AT NASA

The final breaking point for Musk was Trump's withdrawal of his close ally Jared Isaacman from the NASA administrator position on Saturday night. Isaacman had previously gone to space twice with Musk's SpaceX.

Although it is alleged that Isaacman's nomination was withdrawn due to his donations to Democrats, according to the US press, the donations were previously disclosed and Trump was aware of the situation.

Furthermore, it is said that Sergio Gor, the director of the Presidential Personnel Office, who clashed with Musk, was influential in the rejection of his nomination. A White House official stated that this was "Sergio telling Musk to 'get lost'."
