6.3 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan
It has been reported that 120 people lost their lives and more than a thousand were injured in a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck northern Afghanistan.
Provincial Disaster Management Chief Mosa Ashari announced in a statement that 120 people lost their lives and more than a thousand were injured in the earthquake, which occurred at 11:00 local time approximately 40 km from Herat province in the north of the country.
It was stated that at least 3 strong aftershocks occurred in the province, where an estimated 1.9 million people live, and that many buildings were damaged and some people remained trapped under the rubble.
On the other hand, Ashari stated that unconfirmed reports indicate the death toll is over 300.
In June of last year, more than a thousand people lost their lives and tens of thousands were left homeless in a 5.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Paktika province.
