6.5 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia
It has been reported that a 6.5 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Papua region of Indonesia.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the 6.5 magnitude earthquake, with its epicenter 162 kilometers northeast of Abepura, was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers.
While no loss of life or property has been reported so far, the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics has warned that there is no tsunami threat, but that aftershocks may occur.
More than 331 people lost their lives in a 5.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Cianjur city of West Java on November 21.

The 9.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Indian Ocean off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra in December 2004 triggered a tsunami that caused the deaths of more than 230 thousand people in surrounding countries, mostly in the Aceh province.
Indonesia, a vast archipelago with a population of more than 270 million, is located in the Pacific Earthquake Belt, also known as the "Ring of Fire," where seismic activity and volcanic eruptions are most frequent in the world.
