79% of Democrats support Vice President Harris as nominee if Biden withdraws
A poll conducted in the US has revealed that 79% of Democrats would support Vice President Kamala Harris being nominated as the presidential candidate if President Joe Biden decides to withdraw from the race.
In a poll conducted by the British magazine The Economist and the research firm YouGov, Americans were asked questions regarding the presidential election to be held on November 5.
In the survey, Democrats were asked whether they would support Harris being nominated if Biden, who has faced calls to withdraw from the election, were to exit the presidential race.
According to the poll, 79% of Democrats support the nomination of his deputy, Harris, in the event that Biden withdraws from the election.
Approximately 28% of Democrats believe that Harris has a higher chance of winning against former President Donald Trump compared to Biden. Conversely, 24% state that they believe Harris has a lower chance of defeating Trump than Biden.
51% of Americans want Biden to withdraw from the election and leave his place to another Democrat. The vast majority of Democrats who support this decision want Biden to withdraw due to concerns about his age, as well as his mental and physical health.
On the other hand, 65% of Americans are of the opinion that Biden will not withdraw from the race.
PRESSURE FROM DEMOCRATS INCREASING
Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden and his Republican rival Donald Trump, who are competing in the presidential election to be held in the US on November 5, faced off in their first live televised debate on CNN on the night of June 27. Biden failed to deliver a performance that would alleviate concerns about his age and was subjected to intense criticism following the program.
Calls for Biden to "withdraw from the presidential election" were made by segments of the Democratic Party and celebrities who support Biden, such as George Clooney.
Democratic US Representative Adam Schiff also joined those calling on Biden to "withdraw."
The number of Democrats calling on Biden to "withdraw" has exceeded 20.
