A new era in the EU begins tomorrow!
The European Union is switching to a universal charger for various electronic devices as part of its plan to reduce waste. Starting tomorrow, USB-C will be the new standard charging port for portable electronic devices in EU countries.
The EU's universal charger rule, which aims to reduce waste and harmonize different charging ports such as USB-C, Micro USB, and Lightning for various electronic devices, will come into effect on December 28.
In this context, USB-C will be the new standard charging port for portable electronic devices in EU countries.
All new smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, portable video game consoles, speakers, and keyboards will be required to have a USB-C charging port. Additionally, the fast-charging systems of electronic devices will also be compatible.
WILL APPLY TO LAPTOPS IN 2026
The USB-C rule will also apply to laptops starting April 28, 2026.
EU HAD GRANTED A 2-YEAR TRANSITION PERIOD
The EU approved the universal charging port rule in 2022 and granted a 2-year period for it to come into effect.
The EU regulation specifically caused Apple, which uses different charging ports, to make changes to its products and ensured that the company changed the charging ports on its new devices to USB-C.
Currently, most devices are charged via a USB-C port. The same port is also available on headphones, various other accessories, and new laptops.
