A time had been set: Rafah Border Crossing has opened!

The Rafah Border Crossing, the only border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, is expected to open today.

In a statement made by the U.S. Embassy in Israel, it was stated, "We have received information that the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt will open on Saturday, October 21, at 10:00 a.m. local time. If the border opens, we do not know how long it will remain open for foreign citizens to exit Gaza. We anticipate that many people will attempt to cross if the border opens."

It was stated that U.S. citizens attempting to cross into Egypt should be prepared for a potentially chaotic environment on both sides of the crossing. It was conveyed that the U.S. government would send updates regarding its assistance in Egypt to U.S. citizens via email. In the statement, which noted that the situation at the border is dynamic, fluid, and insecure, it was advised that U.S. citizens should assess the security situation before moving toward the border or attempting to cross it.

HUMANITARIAN AID ENTERS GAZA THROUGH RAFAH BORDER CROSSING

According to AA's report, a statement from the Media Office of the Hamas-affiliated government indicated that "essential humanitarian aid" from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has entered Gaza from the Egyptian border.

Emphasizing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the statement noted that the humanitarian aid would meet the "health and basic food needs" of the people living in the region.

The statement did not provide information on how long the border crossing would be kept open for humanitarian aid.
