Admission-like statement from Israeli intelligence
The attack launched by Hamas on Israel resonated in the international press as an intelligence fiasco for Israel. Aharon Haliva, Chief of the Israeli Military Intelligence Directorate, admitted that they failed to provide a warning regarding the attack Hamas carried out on Israeli settlements surrounding the Gaza Strip. In his statement, Haliva said, "We failed to provide a warning regarding Hamas's attack."
On October 7, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, launched an attack on Israel. In the events that made front-page headlines in the world press, the passive stance of Israeli intelligence during the incidents became a major topic of discussion.
"WE FAILED IN OUR MOST IMPORTANT MISSION"
Israel Army Radio featured the statements of Military Intelligence Chief Haliva. Haliva stated, "The beginning of the war was an intelligence failure. As the Military Intelligence Directorate under my command, we failed to provide a warning regarding the terror attack carried out by Hamas."
Noting that "they failed in their most important mission," Haliva stated that "as the head of the Military Intelligence Directorate, he bears full responsibility for this failure."
The Israeli official said, "Whatever needs to be investigated, we will investigate it in a deeper and more comprehensive way and draw conclusions. Now there is only one task, and that is to fight and win."
HAMAS-ISRAEL CONFLICT
The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, launched a comprehensive attack on Israel on the morning of October 7, dubbed "Al-Aqsa Flood."
While thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza toward Israel, Palestinian armed groups raided and seized the Beit Hanoun-Erez Border Crossing on the Gaza-Israel border.
The armed groups then entered residential areas inside Israel from there, and the Israeli army launched an attack on the Gaza Strip with dozens of fighter jets.
It was reported that 1,400 Israelis, including 299 soldiers, were killed and 3,968 Israelis were injured in the attacks launched from Gaza.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that 3,000 people were killed and 12,500 people were injured in Gaza due to Israeli attacks.
It was stated that 61 Palestinians were killed and approximately 1,250 people were injured in attacks by Israeli forces and Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank.
Additionally, 13 journalists lost their lives in Israel's attacks.
In the clashes that began on October 8 on the Lebanon border between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, 8 Hezbollah members, 2 Islamic Jihad members, 1 journalist, and 2 civilians lost their lives.
In the attacks carried out from the Lebanese side, 2 Israeli soldiers and 1 Israeli civilian lost their lives.
