The United States Geological Survey stated that the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 8 kilometers, had a magnitude of 6.3 and that its epicenter was 34 km outside the city of Herat.

euronews reports that damage assessment efforts are ongoing in the region. It is mentioned that the number of dead and injured could be high. Many people also lost their lives in an earthquake that occurred on October 7 at a point close to the same region in the country.

According to initial reports from the latest earthquake, more than 2 thousand people have lost their lives. The United Nations announced that the vast majority of those who died were women and children.

Another aftershock with a magnitude of 6.3 occurred in the Herat region on Wednesday.
