Alarm bells ringing for Trump ahead of US elections: He has even fallen behind Joe Biden
US President Donald Trump's approval rating has dropped to the lowest point of his presidency, overshadowed by rising energy prices and the war in Iran. This development provides significant signals that will impact the results of the upcoming midterm elections.
In the United States, public support for President Donald Trump has hit its lowest level in six years, driven by social economic pressures and foreign policy crises. The percentage of those who approve of Trump's job performance, which was 36 percent in mid-April, fell to 34 percent in a short time, a loss of two points.
When Trump took office in January 2025, he had an approval rating of 47 percent. However, the president, who has now fallen nearly 13 points behind that figure, is increasingly losing the public's trust.
Polls conducted shortly before the assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner also revealed that the public's economic and security concerns are rising.
WAR AND ECONOMIC TURMOIL CHALLENGE TRUMP
A decline in President Trump's popularity was observed particularly after the military operation conducted by the US and Israel against Iran in February. As a result of these developments, disruptions occurred in more than 20 percent of international oil flows. Consequently, gasoline prices across the US surged by more than 40 percent, jumping to 4.18 dollars per gallon.
This sharp rise in the cost of living has increased Americans' criticism of the Trump administration. According to recent polls in the country, only 22 percent of the public finds the President's performance on the cost of living successful. While Republican voters generally maintain their loyalty to their president, 41 percent of party members stated that they are dissatisfied with his economic policies.
DEMOCRATS STRENGTHEN AHEAD OF ELECTIONS
The preference of neutral voters ahead of the midterm elections to be held in November is also noteworthy. While 34 percent of independent voters say they will vote for the Democratic Party in the congressional elections, support for the Republican front remained at 20 percent. This situation indicates that the outcome of the midterm elections will be concerning for Trump and his party.
When taking office, President Trump had pointed to his predecessor Joe Biden's failure to combat high inflation and promised to lower prices. However, the fact that his approval rating in the economic sphere has fallen to 27 percent in recent polls reveals that Trump has dropped below both his own first-term performance and Biden's lowest days.
As rising energy costs and dwindling oil reserves strain the budgets of American families, the pressure on the administration grows every day. Recent developments show that there is a deep loss of confidence in the US public's view of the president and his economic management.
