Aliyev and Blinken hold 'peace process' meeting
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Germany. Aliyev stated, "Azerbaijan is committed to the peace process, and the signing of a peace agreement as soon as possible is in line with our national interests."
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev continues his contacts in Munich, Germany, where he arrived to attend the 60th Munich Security Conference.
A statement from the Azerbaijani Presidency indicated that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the request of the US side.
According to the statement, Blinken noted that they attach great importance to bilateral relations with Azerbaijan and emphasized that there are good opportunities to further strengthen the relations and cooperation between Azerbaijan and the US.
Touching upon the importance of the 2024 United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP29) to be hosted by Azerbaijan, Blinken said, "We strongly support this issue. We wish to do our best for the success of this event and at the same time for the establishment of a lasting and dignified peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The US has done useful work in this direction and will continue to do so. There are many issues to discuss. Thank you for taking the time to meet with us today," he said.

Emphasizing that COP29 is an important part of the bilateral agenda between Azerbaijan and the US, President Aliyev said, "This expands the scope of the issues on our agenda, and we expect support from the US for all our initiatives this year. As you mentioned, there is another issue on our agenda, which is the regional situation in the Caucasus and especially the possibility of establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan is committed to the peace process, and the signing of a peace agreement as soon as possible is in line with our national interests. I thank the US and especially you personally for your efforts in this direction," he said.
It was noted that views were exchanged on regional connections, transportation, the Middle Corridor, and issues of mutual interest.
