Anti-Elon Musk protests held in Washington: Chants of 'No to a fascist US'

In the US, hundreds of people, including Democratic members of Congress, gathered in front of the Treasury Department to protest the influence of American businessman and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk on the government.

Hundreds of people, including Democratic Senators, came together in front of the Treasury Department in the capital, Washington, following reports that DOGE had been granted 'access to payment system data'.

The crowd protesting Musk's influence on the government chanted 'Elon Musk must go!'. Some of the demonstrators carried signs reading 'No to Trump, No to Musk, No to a fascist US', 'Musk owns Trump', and 'Keep your hands off private data'.

Senate Minority Leader Democrat Chuck Schumer delivered a speech there, stating the following:

'We cannot allow Elon Musk and a small group of people to secretly take away our privacy, our dollars, and everything we own behind closed doors.'

'WHATEVER DOGE IS DOING, IT IS NOT DEMOCRACY'

The US Treasury Department had been sued by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA), and the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) on the grounds that it granted DOGE 'access to payment system data'.

The Treasury Department had announced that DOGE employees would only have read-only access to payment system data.

Regarding the reports that DOGE was granted 'access to payment system data', Schumer said, 'Whatever DOGE is doing, it is not democracy.'

Senator Chris Van Hollen noted the following regarding Musk's influence on the government:

''This is the most corrupt bargain we have seen in American history. Elon Musk gave millions to fund Trump's campaign, and now Trump has given him the keys to our government. Musk is coming (to the Treasury Department) and stealing Social Security numbers and personal data. Are we going to allow this?''
