Apollo 13 left behind: New space record from Artemis II

NASA has passed a significant milestone with Artemis II, its first crewed mission around the Moon since 1972. According to a statement from the agency, the four astronauts on the mission reached the farthest point humanity has ever attained, traveling approximately 406,765 kilometers from Earth. Thus, the record set during the 1970 Apollo 13 mission was surpassed by a margin of 6,602 kilometers.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman congratulated the astronauts participating in the mission, stating, "This mission will be remembered as the moment when people began to believe again that America can achieve the nearly impossible and change the world."

MISSION BEGAN ON APRIL 1

The Artemis II mission, which holds the distinction of being the first crewed flight around the Moon since 1972, was launched on April 1. The Orion spacecraft, carrying four astronauts, was launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA, at 18:35 local time using the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. It was reported that after the launch, the rocket stages separated as planned and Orion successfully entered orbit.

Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen are participating in the mission, which will last approximately 10 days. It was stated that the astronauts will not land on the lunar surface, but will travel beyond Earth's orbit toward previously unobserved regions of the Moon.
