Araghchi: If anyone questions the accuracy of our data, let them share evidence

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made a statement regarding the incident following US President Donald Trump's remarks concerning the number of people who lost their lives during the violent protests in Iran. In a statement on his social media account, Araghchi said, "The Iranian government, fulfilling its promise of full transparency to its own people, has already published a comprehensive list of 3,117 victims, including approximately 200 security personnel who lost their lives in the recent terrorist incidents. If there is anyone who questions the accuracy of our data, please share some evidence."

In his previous statements, Araghchi had noted that among the total death toll, 690 people were among the "terrorists" who were alleged to have been armed and supported against Iran by the US and Israel.

Trump had said 32 thousand people were killed

Araghchi's statement came following a press conference held by the US President after the US Supreme Court's decision to cancel the customs tariffs Trump had imposed on foreign countries. In that press conference, in response to a question about the negotiations held with Iran, Trump replied, "It would be better if Iran makes a deal. You know, the Iranian people and the Iranian leadership are very different. There is a very, very sad situation there; 32 thousand people were killed in a relatively short time. Two weeks ago, they were going to hang 837 people and dangle them from cranes. I told them, 'If you hang even one person, you will see the consequences.' I wasn't going to wait two weeks and negotiate. They stopped hanging people; they didn't hang the 837 people."

HRANA: "The death toll has exceeded 7 thousand"

In a previous statement made by the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), it was stated that the number of people who died in the demonstrations in Iran, which began on December 28 as a reaction to the cost of living and turned into anti-government protests, had exceeded 7 thousand.
