Baghdad excluded from Khamenei's funeral ceremonies in Iraq

Sharing the details of the funeral ceremonies to be held in Iraq, Security Commission Chairman Lieutenant General Saad Maad stated in a press conference that the body of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will be brought to Najaf on July 7. Following the official reception in Najaf, the funeral procession, which will take place with public participation, will begin the next morning at 06:00 from the Kufa Intersection and continue through Sadrin Square to the 20th Revolution Intersection.

Another major ceremony will be held in Karbala in the afternoon of the same day. It was reported that the procession, which will start at 16:00, will proceed along the Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis Street route to reach the shrines of Imam Hussein and İmam Abbas, and that the city's main arteries will be used for this purpose.

Commission Chairman Maad stated that they have created a flexible and detailed transportation plan to ensure that citizens can easily participate in the ceremonies in Najaf and Karbala, and noted that Khamenei's body will be transported to Iran after the completion of the ceremonies.

In the previously announced program, Baghdad International Airport was considered as the starting point for Khamenei's funeral ceremony. However, in the latest statement, it was announced that no ceremony would be held in Baghdad and that the program was limited to only Najaf and Karbala due to the limited time available.

Regarding the matter, Lieutenant General Maad stated, "Expressing that the funeral ceremonies will not be held in Baghdad, he said that the capital could not be included in the ceremony program due to the 24-hour time limit, and that the program was limited only to Najaf and Karbala."

It was known that the committee responsible for the funeral organization had previously announced Baghdad as the first stop on the route and that preparations had even been made in this direction. However, in the final plan, farewell ceremonies for Khamenei will be held on Iraqi soil only in Najaf and Karbala.
