Belgium provides cash and in-kind aid to Morocco following earthquake

Belgian Federal Minister of Development Cooperation Caroline Gennez announced on the social media platform X that 5 million euros have been allocated for aid to earthquake victims and reconstruction efforts.

Gennez also stated that a medical unit consisting of members of the Belgian First Aid and Support Team (B-FAST) is being prepared to be deployed if requested by Morocco.

Meanwhile, a bank account number has been designated for donations to the Red Cross.

Aid campaigns have begun in the municipalities of Brussels, Evere, Koekelberg, Molenbeek, Anderlecht, and Sint-Gillis, where people of Moroccan descent live in high concentrations.

As of September 12, supplies such as tents, mattresses, hygiene products, blankets, and even emergency generators will be collected at a warehouse in Anderlecht.

In Belgium, which has a population of 11.5 million, approximately 500 thousand citizens of Moroccan descent reside.

7.0 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE IN MOROCCO: DEATH TOLL RISES TO 2,012

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the Al-Haouz region near the city of Marrakesh in Morocco on September 8 at 23:10 local time.

It was reported that the earthquake also affected the cities of Casablanca, Meknes, Agadir, and Fez, as well as the capital, Rabat.

The Moroccan Ministry of Interior announced that 2,012 people have lost their lives and 2,059 people have been injured in the earthquake so far.
