Biden announces new citizenship program that will affect 500 thousand immigrants

As the presidential elections approach in the US, President Joe Biden has taken a new step regarding immigrants.

Speaking at an event held at the White House, Biden officially announced the new program that will allow at least 500 thousand immigrants married to US citizens to become citizens.

Targeting former President Donald Trump, Biden stated that he separated immigrant families at the US-Mexico border and used inflammatory language illegally about immigrants in the US.

Biden said, "It's hard to believe what he says, but he actually says these things out loud and it's outrageous. I'm not interested in playing politics with the border or the immigration issue.

I'm interested in fixing it. We can fix it. That's what I'm doing today. The steps I'm taking today are overwhelmingly supported by the American people."

The program, which is expected to be implemented in the coming months, will benefit approximately 500 thousand spouses who have been married as of June 17 and have lived in the US for at least 10 years.

THE MAJORITY ARE EXPECTED TO BE MEXICAN CITIZENS

The program will also provide the opportunity for 50 thousand people under the age of 21, whose parent is married to a US citizen, to become citizens. A large portion of the immigrants who will be able to benefit from the program are expected to be Mexican citizens.

The White House also plans to simplify and expedite the visa process for highly skilled undocumented immigrants who have obtained degrees from US universities or have received job offers in their fields.

Individuals who are considered a threat to public safety or who have a criminal record due to involvement in crimes involving moral turpitude will not be able to benefit from the program.
