Biden's ceasefire statement: We are closer than ever
US President Joe Biden, in a statement regarding the ceasefire negotiations held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, said, "We are closer than we have ever been to securing a ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas." Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri, however, accused the Biden administration of trying to create a "false sense of optimism."
The ceasefire and hostage release negotiations for the Gaza Strip, which began yesterday in Doha, the capital of Qatar, concluded today. US President Joe Biden made a statement to reporters at the White House regarding the two-day talks.
In his statement, Biden said, "We are closer than we have ever been to securing a ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas."
Stating that the deal has not yet matured but that the parties are closer than they were three days before the talks in Doha, Biden remarked, "I don't want to jinx anything, but we may have something."
'FALSE SENSE OF OPTIMISM' ACCUSATION
On the other hand, senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri, in his statement, accused the Biden administration of trying to create a "false sense of optimism." Zuhri emphasized that the US has no real intention of ending the war in Gaza and is merely trying to buy time.
