Biden to Netanyahu: Withdraw from a 1-2 kilometer section of the Philadelphi Corridor

Negotiations for a ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement in the Gaza Strip, mediated by the US, Egypt, and Qatar, are ongoing. The end of the Israeli occupation of the Philadelphi Corridor on the Gaza-Egypt border, the Rafah Border Crossing, and the Netzarim Junction are among the topics being discussed in the talks, which Hamas is not attending.

The US-based news site Axios reported that US President Joe Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by phone and discussed the situation in the Philadelphi Corridor on the Egypt-Gaza border. 

According to the report by Axios, which cited 3 Israeli officials, Biden asked Netanyahu to withdraw his troops from a 1-2 kilometer section of the Philadelphi Corridor.

The Israeli Prime Minister agreed to withdraw his troops from one position to advance the deal. Biden also supported Netanyahu's request to continue holding the rest of the border during the first phase of the agreement.

On the other hand, one of Netanyahu's unnamed advisors told Axios that Netanyahu only agreed to shift one position on the Philadelphi Corridor by a few hundred meters and that this would not affect Israel's operational control of the border.
