Black police officer beaten by colleagues in the US to receive $23 million in compensation

Judge Joseph Whyte of the court in St. Louis announced that it was appropriate for $23 million in compensation to be paid to Hall, a Black officer who was brutally beaten and detained by three white police officers.

In delivering the ruling, Whyte stated, "Mr. Hall had to endure this severe beating, and he knew that he was being subjected to it by colleagues who had sworn to serve and protect."

HE HAD SUFFERED FROM POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER

Hall was severely injured after being beaten with batons by his own colleagues while working undercover at a protest following the acquittal of Jason Stockley, a white police officer who killed 24-year-old Black man Anthony Lamar Smith, and subsequently suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.

In an interview with local media in 2022, Hall claimed that the only intention of the police officers who assaulted him at that demonstration was to harm protesters, and that the attack on him was racially motivated.

Of the officers involved in the incident, Randy Hays was sentenced to 4 years in prison in 2021 for using "unprovoked and excessive force" against Hall, while Dustin Boone was sentenced to 1 year.
