Brazilian court upholds ban on X

A vote was held today at the Supreme Court regarding the access ban imposed on the social media platform X in Brazil.

The court's five-member panel voted to uphold the ban on X, which was implemented on Saturday by the decision of Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

According to the decision reached after the online vote, X will remain blocked until it complies with orders and pays outstanding fines that exceeded $3 million as of last week. The vote also upheld the decision set by Moraes to impose fines of up to $8,874 per day for those using a VPN to access X.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered the platform to be banned in the country on Friday after the company refused to appoint a legal representative to the country to combat disinformation, and access to X was shut down early Saturday.

In a statement, Elon Musk claimed that Moraes was breaking the law, saying, "Obviously, he doesn't have to follow US laws, but he does have to follow the laws of his own country. He is a dictator and a fraud."
