Brazilian President Lula da Silva to Trump: We do not want an emperor

The 17th BRICS Leaders' Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has concluded. Host Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva held a press conference following the summit. Rejecting US President Donald Trump's accusation that the BRICS bloc is "anti-American," Lula da Silva said, "This is a community of countries looking for ways to organize the world differently from an economic perspective. I think that is why BRICS bothers some people."

Addressing Trump's tariff threat against BRICS countries, Brazilian President Lula da Silva stated, "The world has changed. We do not want an emperor."

Reiterating his view that global trade should not be solely dependent on the US dollar, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said, "The world must find a way where our trade relations do not have to pass only through the dollar. Of course, we must take responsibility for doing this carefully. Our central banks should discuss this issue with the central banks of other countries."

CUSTOMS DUTIES TO BE INCREASED BY 10 PERCENT

US President Trump, making a statement regarding the countries that gathered for the 17th BRICS Leaders' Summit yesterday, had said, "Customs duties will be increased by 10 percent for countries that identify themselves with BRICS' anti-American policies. There will be no exceptions to this policy."
