Breaking News: 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes strike Venezuela 39 seconds apart

Two major earthquakes have occurred in Venezuela. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a 7.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 18:04 local time, with its epicenter in the town of Morn, approximately 168 kilometers west of the capital, Caracas. Just 39 seconds after the first tremor, a second earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 occurred 16 kilometers southwest of the town of Morn.

A temporary tsunami warning was issued following the earthquakes, which were felt in many regions, especially in Caracas. The USGS estimated that the death toll could range from 10,000 to 100,000, stating, "High casualties and extensive damage are probable and the disaster is likely widespread."

STATEMENT FROM CABELLO: THE SITUATION IS CONCERNING

Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello stated that the earthquakes were felt in many states across the country, noting that the situation is "concerning" due to collapsed structures, particularly in and around Caracas.

Stating that search and rescue operations have been initiated, Cabello said, "We understand that some of our citizens feel desperate, but we are acting in accordance with protocols to deliver aid to those most in need and to begin search and rescue efforts."

Warning that structures damaged by the tremors could collapse, Cabello advised the public not to enter their homes. Moments of panic caused by the earthquakes were captured on amateur cameras.
