Breaking News: Iran's new supreme leader has been determined

In Iran, the 88-member Assembly of Experts has successfully completed the process of selecting the country's new supreme leader. One of the assembly members, Seyyed Ahmad Alamolhoda, announced to the public that Iran's new leader has been determined.

Alamolhoda stated that the leadership election had taken place and the new leader had been appointed, emphasizing that claims suggesting the Assembly of Experts had not yet reached a decision were untrue.

Reports in Iranian media yesterday indicated that the Assembly of Experts was expected to convene within 24 hours following the death of Ali Khamenei.

Iranian officials announced that the identity of the new leader would not be shared with the public for the time being due to security concerns.

The Israeli military had previously announced that any religious leader chosen to replace Ali Khamenei, who was killed in US and Israeli attacks in Iran, would be a target. The statement declared, "Anyone attempting to appoint a successor to Khamenei and anyone who becomes a successor will be pursued." statements were included.

HOW IS THE SUPREME LEADER DETERMINED IN IRAN?

According to Article 111 of the Iranian Constitution, in the event of the death, resignation, or removal of the supreme leader, the authority to determine the new leader belongs to the Assembly of Experts. The assembly is required to convene as soon as possible to select and announce the new leader.

Until a new leader is determined, a temporary mechanism is activated in the country's administration. Accordingly, a council consisting of three people—the President, the Head of the Judiciary, and one jurist (faqih) from the Guardian Council selected by the Expediency Discernment Council—temporarily assumes leadership powers.

SPECULATIONS REGARDING MOJTABA KHAMENEI HAD EMERGED

In recent days, allegations had surfaced that members of the Assembly of Experts held an online meeting and that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, had been selected as the new leader.

US President Donald Trump also expressed his opposition to the potential leadership of Mojtaba Khamenei in his assessment of these claims.

In his statement, Trump said, "The most likely successor in Iran is Mojtaba Khamenei, but this is unacceptable. I do not want an Iranian leader who will continue Khamenei's policies and force the US into war again in five years."
