Budget crisis in France: Prime Minister resigns

Government instability in France has deepened further due to disagreements during budget negotiations. The center-right Michel Barnier government fell in December 2024 following a motion of no confidence submitted by the opposition due to a failure to reach a consensus on the 2025 budget negotiations. Following this development, President Emmanuel Macron appointed François Bayrou as prime minister. However, the Bayrou government also fell on September 8 after failing to receive a vote of confidence.

Sebastien Lecornu, who was appointed prime minister on September 9 following François Bayrou, had formed a new government. However, as of yesterday, Lecornu also resigned from his post.
