China reacts to isolation plans: 'Countries cooperating with the US...'
It was stated that China will not accept any agreement made between other countries at the expense of its interests and will take equivalent countermeasures.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has responded to reports regarding US plans to economically isolate China.
China warned that it would retaliate against countries that cooperate with the US in a way that jeopardizes Beijing's interests.
In a statement, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said, "China respects the desire of all parties to resolve trade and economic disputes with the US through fair consultations."
The statement, which called on all parties to 'stand on the side of justice, on the right side of history, and to protect international trade and economic rules and the multilateral trading system' regarding reciprocal tariffs, noted the following:
"China is firmly opposed to any agreement made at the expense of its interests. Should this occur, China will not tolerate it and will resolutely take equivalent countermeasures. China has the determination and capability to defend its own interests."
Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that US officials were in talks with other countries, planning to secure commitments from trade partners to economically isolate China in exchange for lower tariffs.
