China reacts to US general's claims regarding space station in Argentina

US Southern Command General Laura Richardson visited Argentina.

General Richardson's remarks suggesting that the Neuquen Deep Space Station, established in the Patagonia region in partnership with China, could be used for military purposes were met with a reaction from the Chinese Embassy in Buenos Aires.

In a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Buenos Aires, it was stated that the Neuquen Deep Space Station is a cooperation project between China and Argentina in the field of space technology and does not serve any purpose other than civilian use.

Emphasizing that space is the common home of humanity and should not be turned into a field for power struggles, the statement included the expression, "Some in the US are still stuck in a Cold War mentality and a zero-sum game logic."

According to reports in the Argentine press, US Southern Command General Richardson had expressed security concerns regarding the station during her meeting with President Javier Milei on April 2.

Pointing out that the station, which can perform wide-area radar observations with its radio telescope, has "global electronic tracking and monitoring capabilities," Richardson had claimed that it could be used for military purposes.
