Claim that Hamas commander was killed in Gaza
The Israeli military announced that it targeted and killed Izz al-Din al-Haddad, one of Hamas's military leaders, in an air operation conducted in Gaza City.
Israel's military interventions in Gaza and Lebanon continue despite calls for a ceasefire between the parties. In the latest development, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that Izz al-Din al-Haddad, a high-ranking commander of Hamas's military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, was killed in a precision airstrike carried out in Gaza City.
In a statement issued by the IDF, it was alleged that Haddad played a significant role in the preparation of the attacks carried out on October 7. The military claimed that Izz al-Din al-Haddad had recently been occupied with the task of reorganizing Hamas's military strength and planning attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers.
The statement also included the following remarks: "Throughout the war, Haddad was responsible for the supervision of many of the Israeli hostages held by Hamas. He was involved in the management of the hostage system and kept hostages with him to prevent his own killing."
It was stated that Haddad joined the organization shortly after its founding, becoming one of the most experienced military leaders within the movement. The IDF further claimed that al-Haddad held a central position in the Hamas administration in Gaza and was one of the last high-level military actors to have established close relationships with Hamas leaders.
Israel continues its targeted attacks aimed at weakening Hamas's military power in its operations in Gaza, which have been ongoing for approximately seven months. The killing of al-Haddad indicates that tensions in the region remain high.
