Claim that 'the US has evacuated two more bases in northern Syria'

The US is reducing its military presence in northern Syria. Reports in the US press have claimed that the US military has evacuated two more bases in northern Syria.

According to observations by journalists visiting northern Syria, US forces have evacuated the Al-Wazir and Tel Baydar bases located in the Al-Hasakah province of northern Syria. The journalists stated that the bases from which the US withdrew are now being guarded by small units belonging to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which are under the control of the PKK terrorist organization.

The reports stated that cameras installed at the bases used by the US-led coalition have been dismantled, and the barbed wire around the bases has begun to sag. According to the report, with the evacuation of these two bases, the number of bases the US has abandoned in Syria since US President Donald Trump took office has risen to at least four.

The Trump administration announced this month that it would reduce its military presence in the regions of northeastern Syria controlled by the PKK-backed SDF, maintaining only one of the eight bases. It has been suggested that the US could reduce its troop numbers from 2,000 to 500 during this process.

Mazlum Abdi, the so-called commander of the SDF, said in a statement to the US press that the US presence, which will continue with a few hundred soldiers at a single base, will not be sufficient to keep the threat of the terrorist organization ISIS under control. Abdi said, "The ISIS threat has increased significantly in recent times. However, this is the US military's plan. We have known this for a long time, and we are working together to ensure there is no gap in this plan and that the pressure on ISIS can be maintained."
