Afghanistan and Pakistan Armed clashes occurring on the border in the Khost and Paktia provinces have further increased tensions between the two countries. It is alleged that 19 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the clashes, and 3 Afghan civilians lost their lives in the Dand-e Patan district due to a mortar attack by Pakistani forces.
CHECKPOINTS SEIZED AT THE BORDER
According to TOLO News, Afghan forces targeted and set fire to checkpoints belonging to Pakistani forces in the Ali Sher district of Khost. It was also noted that in the Dand-e Patan district of Paktia province, Afghan forces seized two checkpoints belonging to Pakistani forces.
AIRSTRIKES BY PAKISTANI WARPLANES
Shortly before these border clashes, Pakistani warplanes had conducted airstrikes on certain areas in Afghanistan's Paktika province. While Pakistan stated that these strikes targeted bases belonging to the Taliban (TTP), the Afghan side maintained that civilians were killed in the attacks. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) also announced that at least 46 civilians lost their lives in these strikes.
'CONTRARY TO INTERNATIONAL NORMS'
The Afghan administration condemned the airstrikes, stating that they were in violation of international law and announced that they "would not go unanswered."
Attacks in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces have increased significantly in recent years. While Pakistan claims that the Taliban (TTP) organizes these attacks from Afghanistan, the Afghan administration denies these accusations. Previously, the Pakistani military had targeted TTP bases in various Afghan provinces, which caused serious diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
