Court dismisses 'classified documents case' against Trump

As former U.S. President Donald Trump continues his schedule following the assassination attempt on July 13, a new development has occurred in the classified documents case filed against him.

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has dismissed the indictment in the case against former U.S. President Donald Trump, who was accused of illegally retaining over 100 classified government documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

Cannon ruled that Special Counsel Jack Smith, who brought the case, was appointed and funded unlawfully under the U.S. Constitution.

While the special counsel is expected to appeal Judge Aileen Cannon's decision, prosecutors may also request that the case be assigned to a different judge if the ruling is overturned.

"SHOULD BE JUST THE FIRST STEP"

In a statement following the dismissal of the case, Trump said, “As we move forward in uniting our nation after the horrific events on Saturday, this dismissal of the lawless indictment in Florida should be just the first step.

It should be quickly followed by the dismissal of all the witch hunts. The Democrat Department of Justice coordinated all of these political attacks, which are an election interference conspiracy against me, Joe Biden's political opponent.

Let us come together to end the weaponization of our justice system and make America great again,” he stated.

MANY DIFFERENT CHARGES HAD BEEN FILED

During a search conducted by the FBI at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on August 8, 2022, over 100 classified government documents were found, and an investigation into the matter was launched.

In the indictment prepared as part of the investigation, many different charges were brought against Trump, and a case was opened. Trump had requested that the charges be dropped, claiming he had immunity because they were brought against him while he was in office.

Former U.S. President Trump will run as the Republican Party's candidate in the U.S. Presidential election on November 5, 2024.
